La Manual Alpargatera handmade espadrilles storefront int Barcelona

In 1940 on Calle Brosolí, a daring Catalan entrepreneur acquired a small espadrille workshop, which in 1941 she moved to Avinyó street in the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona, becoming La Manual Alpargatera.

Mrs. Emilia had the idea to change the perspective of the espadrille, and take it to another level. In 1943, the espadrilles from La Manual Alpargatera had established themselves as a fashion accessory and were on the catwalks of the most renowned designers in Barcelona at that time.

At the end of the 70s, Mrs. Emila called Juana Martinez, who was her right hand in her project, so that she would take charge of La Manual Alpargatera and maintain the essence of the brand. Thus, from 1980, La Manual Alpargatera begins a new story with the Tasies Martinez family.
